Student loans are an artificial trap
It is inappropriate to give an 18 year old the choice of college with significant debt (that does not allow bankruptcy) or limit their potential. College is not for everyone, but everyone that can use college to expand their potential should be given affordable access to it. Currently the debt taken on by a student is so onerous that it is stifling them as individuals and us as a nation. It traps them into debt that is almost insurmountable. This is not a natural action by the "invisible hand" of the market. This is a trap designed by the banking system and the government.
